A new UCLA study found something surprising at electric vehicle charging stations. Scientists measured significantly higher PM₂.₅ levels near the fast-charging stations compared to other urban sites without chargers, including nearby gas stations.
These stations are supposed to be clean, but they had more harmful air particles. This finding is making people take a closer look at how clean EV charging really is.

PM2.5 are very tiny particles that float in the air and can be dangerous to breathe. These particles are about 30 times smaller than a human hair, which means we can’t see them with our eyes.
