On August 15, 2025, during Monterey Car Week, Infiniti revealed two QX80-based concept SUVs, the Track Spec and the Terrain Spec. They show two different directions for Infiniti’s largest SUV.
The Track Spec focuses on high-performance upgrades. The Terrain Spec looks toward off-road abilities, which Infiniti has never offered. Both concepts followed shortly after the QX65 Monograph reveal. The ideas come from Infiniti’s Southern California design studio.

The QX80 Track Spec goes beyond the 2026 Sport trim by using the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine as the regular model but with significant upgrades. A new turbo system and exhaust increased power by about 50 percent.
It now produces more than 650 horsepower and over 750 pound-feet of torque. The engine keeps stock internals and is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti says Track Spec represents the highest horsepower output in the brand’s history.

The QX80 Track Spec has larger Brembo brakes to handle its higher output. Infiniti does not give a 0 to 60 mph time. However, with its power, it could rival other luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade V.
Visually, the Track Spec uses the same grille as the Sport trim. It adds quad exhaust tips, a rear diffuser, and a black and blue vinyl wrap. Other changes include 24-inch wheels and wide fender flares to emphasize its high-performance design.

The Terrain Spec keeps many features that were already seen in the production QX80. One example is Invisible Hood View, which stitches camera feeds to display the ground directly under the front of the SUV on the central screen.
This concept pushes further off-road than prior Infiniti production models, which already offered All-Mode 4WD and multiple drive modes. If produced, it would compete directly with the Lexus LX 700h Overtrail, which already has a strong position in the off-road luxury market.

David Woodhouse, vice president at Nissan Design America, said the QX80 Track Spec and Terrain Spec were inspired by the canyon roads and mountain trails near the company’s Southern California studio. He described them as two expressions of strength and elegance.
Tiago Castro, vice president at Infiniti Americas, said these concepts represent client mindsets. Track Spec is for drivers who want thrilling performance, and Terrain Spec is for those who want confident off-road capability.

The Track Spec and Terrain Spec are examples of Infiniti’s new fast-to-market plan. This approach lets Infiniti test ideas quickly to see what appeals to buyers while entering stronger competition with Lexus.
These concepts show Infiniti’s focus on high performance and off-road capability as emotional entry points into luxury. If either or both are produced, they could push Infiniti into the premium SUV space while balancing capability, elegance, and design in one of its largest models.

On August 7, 2025, Infiniti confirmed it would show the QX65 Monograph at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. This midsize, coupe-style crossover is a two-row version of the QX60 luxury SUV. The QX65 Monograph is part of three new Infiniti SUV concepts.
Its design features piano-key headlights and a tessellated grille with an illuminated logo. The style connects to past Infiniti models like the QX55, which had a fastback roofline inspired by the earlier FX series.

The QX65 Monograph’s grille has the same double-boomerang shape seen on current Infiniti vehicles. It also has sharper styling than the QX60. Acura had a similar idea with its first ZDX, which shared the MDX platform but had more aggressive lines.
The QX65 is expected to preview a production model in the following year. Infiniti aims for it to be cooler and more athletic than the QX60 sibling, which has a 268-horsepower engine but lacks performance improvements.

The Terrain Spec concept showed clear off-road intentions, with design elements like a wide track and rugged tires. Infiniti has not confirmed whether this concept will enter production.
However, experts believe it is likely because it could give Infiniti a direct competitor to Lexus’ LX 700h Overtrail trim. Lexus already has an advantage with this off-road luxury model, and Infiniti could use the Terrain Spec to challenge that position in the same segment.

In 2011, Infiniti started the Infiniti Performance Line, called IPL. This was created to compete with BMW M and Lexus F performance divisions. The first IPL model was the G37 Coupe.
The G37 IPL Coupe had a 3.7-liter V6 engine with 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. It could go from 0 to 60 mph in about 5 seconds. A G37 IPL Convertible followed in 2013 with 343 horsepower, 273 pound-feet of torque, and about 5.5 seconds 0 to 60.

The IPL Coupe and Convertible included stiffer suspension, larger brakes, and a limited-slip differential. Styling changes added new fascias, 19-inch wheels, and a rear spoiler. Interiors used red stitching and colors such as Graphite and Monaco Red.
Exterior options were Asgard Grey and Malbec Black. Reviews noted firm steering and grip but criticized slower acceleration than rivals like the BMW 335i or Audi S5. With a price of nearly 50,000 dollars, the IPL failed to attract many buyers, according to CarBuzz.

Sales figures for the IPL line were never released, but the brand quietly ended by 2014. The IPL badge was not included in the second-generation Q60 in 2016. Instead, Infiniti turned to new ideas.
In 2014, it revealed the Eau Rouge concept. This used a 3.8-liter GT-R V6 engine called VR38DETT, producing 560 horsepower. It was the most powerful Infiniti concept, showing what could have been done if production had been approved.

The Eau Rouge concept helped inspire the Red Sport 400 versions of the Q50 and Q60 in 2016. These used a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.
They offered rear or all-wheel drive, adaptive steering, drive mode selectors, and a 7-speed automatic transmission. They also had improved suspension, brakes, and looks. Infiniti dropped the manual transmission, but the Red Sport 400 made these cars strong performance choices.

By 2025, Infiniti no longer offered IPL or Red Sport cars. The QX80 Track Spec shows potential for future performance, but no sedan or coupe options remain. The Terrain Spec may enter production because of the growing off-road luxury SUV market.
Nissan’s financial limits keep Infiniti focused on improving SUVs like the QX50 and QX55. If conditions improve, Infiniti could revive performance models. Until then, Track Spec and Terrain Spec are test cases for a possible future direction.
