Honda Zero Unleashing the Power of Silent Mobility

Honda Zero

Honda has revealed its new concept for entering the electric vehicle (EV) market. The idea is expected to launch in mid-2025 or possibly the beginning of 2026.

Recently, Honda hasn’t been a major player in the EV world. While it’s undoubtedly a large brand with high global sales, it plans to enter the EV space with a unique design.

Two Concepts

Two concept models were showcased at a display in California; one is a sedan, and the other is an SUV. Both designs are entirely different from what we’re used to.

The shape and style resemble something from outer space that just landed on Earth. They resemble some UFO-inspired designs at first glance.

Slim Design

The concept is said to have a slim design, reminiscent of when low-slung vehicles were at the peak of trends. These EVs are expected to launch at a lower height.

This design gives an advantage by bringing the center of gravity closer to the road. The aerodynamics are fully optimized, taking advantage of the vehicle’s lower height.

Lower-Height

Everyone remembers the iconic stunt from the first Fast and Furious movie, where three black Hondas slid under a trailer and came out the other side without a scratch.

This scene helped establish the trend of lowered Hondas, which quickly became popular. Within a week, car magazines featured lowered Hondas on their cover pages. To this day, low-vehicle challenges continue at car shows in Japan, where the car that can pass under a barrier the lowest wins, earning the title of “LOWEST.”

Light

Honda describes the Concept Zero as lightweight, unlike the traditional bulky designs. They take the concept back to the roots, recalling when the Civic used to outperform cars with double its engine capacity.

This was possible because the Civic was designed to be incredibly lightweight. We’re all familiar with the 1995-2000 hatchbacks, known for being exceptionally light.

Old School

They further explain that the sporty driving experience of their vehicles will be refined with electric performance. As customers expect from Honda, the brand’s legacy will remain intact.

This helps illustrate how Hondas have been popular with the younger generation. The Civic has always been an entry-level car for high school students and teenagers after getting their driver’s license.

Honda’s Smart Mobility

The Concept Zero is said to feature advanced intelligent software. Honda claims they have considered the mobility of their products to understand better how people enjoy driving their Hondas.

The driving data, collected from millions of on-road vehicles, helped shape the concept of the upcoming EV models, including the Concept Zero.

Design

The design resembles flying cars and shuttles like they’ve just landed on Mars. The body features are unique and unlike any traditional vehicle.

The windows and roof feature full glass construction, with an open, unobstructed view from all sides. It gives the impression of a fighter jet’s cockpit, similar to the clear glass canopy on an F1 jet, offering an easy, full view.

Resonance With Environment

Honda states that “Resonance with Environment” is the theme for the Concept Zero series. The design is kept simple, without any unnecessary complexities.

The visibility from all sides enhances safety by eliminating blind spots. The interior is designed to provide a clear view of the surroundings, further contributing to safer driving.

AD/ADAS System

The Concept Zero will be equipped with Advanced Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Software for safer travel. The AD/ADAS systems help with collision avoidance technologies.

It features several capabilities, including blind spot monitoring, lane assist, night vision, adaptive cruise control, driver assistance, and more. The AD also features an Autonomous Driving system.

It will feature level-3 autonomous driving, so you can watch a movie with hands-off steering while on highways. The intelligence is equipped with Honda’s robotics name, ASIMO-Robot, first revealed in the 2000s.

Sensing Technology

The Zero series will be equipped with a futuristic AI system. It will feature sensing technology, personal recognition, and the ability to make decisions in various scenarios.

While this is impressive and somewhat unsettling, as the car will monitor you every second, it will also include driving monitoring technologies to learn more about your driving patterns on your daily route.

Data Collection

Concept Zero will collect driver data through its AI technology. The vehicle will learn about the user’s preferences while driving, including their taste in music.

Additionally, it will gather data about your driving tendencies. The vehicle will then use this information to make various suggestions during your journey, helping to enhance your comfort along the way.

Steer-By-Wire

The saloon model will feature a steer-by-wire system to better integrate with the motion management system. This means that the steering control will no longer be manually operated; instead, it will be controlled by wires and sensors.

This system will manage steering based on attitude control and other technologies integrated through Honda’s robotic technologies.

Light Weight Axles

Honda is determined to make its Zero series thin, light, and intelligent. The models will be equipped with lightweight e-axles housed in special compartments.

The battery packs will feature higher energy densities, and advanced materials will be used to make the batteries lighter, contributing to overall weight reduction.

These measures will result in a more extended range using less battery capacity.

Minimum Degradation

The Zero series will be equipped with intelligent fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 15% to 80% in 10-15 minutes.

Honda has been collecting data from EVs worldwide and is committed to providing the best batteries. These batteries will have a minimal degradation rate, with less than 10% degradation after 10 years of use.

Every car brand seems to be making EVs like the 2025 G-class went all electric. Read this post to find more details about it.

No Side Mirrors and Rear-Screen

Have you noticed something unusual? The Concept Zero doesn’t have a rear screen, and the side mirrors are missing from each design.

This design suggests that the vehicles will be equipped with intelligent cameras to take on these tasks. The interior will feature bright screens on each side, while external cameras will replace the traditional side mirrors.

The backside will also be equipped with cameras to replace the rear screen, and the rear-view mirror will display the view from those cameras.

The EVs keep surprising as BYD U9 becomes the third fastest EV worldwide. Read this to find out about it.
