The new Mercedes G-wagon is ready to be launched in 2025 as a fully electric car. The legendary off-road vehicle is now being redesigned with tech heading towards the future in style.

These electric motors mean no limit for any terrain, as the EV does not know any limits, with four individually controlled electric motors thundering out an insane 579 horsepower.

Rear Design Box

The rear door box is now designed to store charging cables and other accessories like tools and snow chains so they don’t wander around your trunk.

The rest of the silhouette remains the same legendary rigid look for ages, showing no compromises to its built quality. One can tell by the box shape changed from a circle to a square that it is an EV model.

Four Electric Motors

The four individually controlled electric motors ensure no wheel loses its power. The charm remains the same as replacing a massive V8 bi-turbo engine with electric power, which is challenging.

All these motors are pushing an impressive 579 horsepower, thus naming it a G580. The robust look of the legendary V8 with an electric motor has never happened before.

Performance

116 kWh lithium-ion battery makes sure you can explore every adventure you plan to achieve. It can go as long as 283 miles per charge.

The range is not that impressive, but so is the fuel average of the gasoline variant of G-63. The owners of G-wagon can plan their charging routes as they previously planned to visit petrol pumps.

Off-Road

The impressive amount of 579 lb and 859 lb-ft torque ensures you don’t miss any chance to explore nature while sitting in the most loved SUV ever made.

The four electric motors make it even more thrashing through off-road experiences, with even more output and torque than a combustion engine. At 850mm, it is more capable of off-road expertise than most people will ever need.

Cockpit

The off-road cockpit offers 12.3 inches of display for all the information needed while you are open to exploring nature. Any road ahead or anything that looks like a road, nothing stands in your way with this powerful machine.

The upholstery offers Nappa-leather as standard, and ambient lighting in the dash provides any color your imagination can think of.

G-Turn

Taking advantage of the four individually controlled electric motors, Mercedes has got some new-age tricks. The G580 can spin 360 degrees by standing straight to its length, known as a tank turn.

This G-turn feature controls the right and left wheels in opposite directions. Another feature added is controlling each motor power individually; g-steering has a reduced turning circle, improving the overall drive experience.

Deluxe Finishing

The G580 EV’s cabin is usually luxurious and provides high-end finishing, as expected from a G-class. The leather finishing with stitches provides all the comfort you need while off-roading or cruising around the corner.

Massaging seats are offered as a part of the Active Seat Plus package, and the adjustable side supports can be adjusted to hold you tighter when driving off-road. It provides eight massage modes for drivers and passengers.

0-60 MPH

The four electric motors producing massive thunder provide a 0-60 mph time as fast as 4.1 seconds. Virtual differential locks, torque adjustment, and off-road crawl functions are also handy in maintaining typical G-class-like all-terrain capability.

The G-580 is built on a ladder frame chassis similar to the gas-powered model, offering an independent front suspension and a solid rear axle to provide all the confidence you need.

Interior

A blue theme continues inside with the stitching to hint that you’re sitting in the electric G-Class. Otherwise, it’s all very familiar, with the same twin instruments and infotainment displays on the dashboard.

The standard-fit Burmester sound system sounds even better in the EV model because no engine sound gives any distortion while you are enjoying your favorite tracks.

Two high-quality 12.3-inch screens cover most of the G-class’s dashboard. The first is a reconfigurable gauge cluster that can be personalized as desired, and the second is a touchscreen for the infotainment interface.

That interface provided in G580 is Mercedes’s latest MBUX system. It features wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a voice assistant, and augmented-reality navigation for all the information you can get.

Connectivity

A menu of gauges called the Offroad Cockpit can be activated while off-roading to provide extra information. The setup offers a compass for navigating terrains not yet discovered by Google Maps.

Furthermore, an altimeter provides information about the altitude, an artificial horizon display, a steering angle indicator, a tire pressure monitor, and more.

Rear Seats

The rear seats do not provide very impressive comfort and space as the design and chassis of G-wagon have remained the same for decades. Providing the classic taste as it remains the same and people who never get enough of this living legend.

A pair of 11.6-inch displays can be added to the back of the two front seats for rear-seat entertainment to eliminate any sense of boredom for rear passengers. All G’s get a Burmester stereo system with Dolby Atmos technology as standard.

Edition 1

The first year after its release in the market, the G-class EV will be offered only in loaded Edition One. The Edition One comes standard with the AMG Line and Night packages.

The Edition one includes 20-inch wheels, and other exterior trim painted high-gloss black. While in G63 AMGs, Edition One has always remained the most loaded and expensive.

Price

The prices start from $162,650 as the G-class was never a budget car. However, as it is only released in Edition One (the most expensive and fully loaded) for the first year after its release, we believe the prices will vary afterward.

The Edition One offers the Multicontour Seats Plus package, which includes eight different types of massage for the driver and the passenger.
