Dodge’s Shift from Muscle Cars to Electric Vehicles

First Challenger

Dodge has always been an iconic brand when it comes to muscle cars. The first muscle car was launched by Dodge back in 1959. It was named the Silver Challenger.

The 1959 Dodge Challenger was offered only in silver. It was a sizeable two-door car that looked more like a muscle car than a sedan. It lasted just one year before it was reintroduced in 1965.

Dodge relaunched the Challenger in 1965 with a new design that shook the market and created a massive demand. However, the body shape remained the same: a two-door, long wheelbase. 

The muscle car essence was present from its first launch and remains a key part of the model. It has remained popular with teenagers and high school kids ever since.

Dodge Daytona

A bigger engine and iconic V8s have always defined the actual muscle car. The roar and solid body were considered the key characteristics of a pure muscle car.

However, the traditional ideas are being changed by Dodge itself with its upcoming all-electric Dodge Charger. The new Charger will be offered in two variants, each delivering different power levels.

Scat Pack

The Dodge Charger features a massive 500 kW battery, delivering 670 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, maintaining its iconic power with the same level of dignity.

The quarter-mile time for this EV model is 11.5 seconds, which is quite impressive. Those are some impressive figures coming from a factory stock car.

R/T Variant

The second variant of the EV Charger comes with an R/T badge. While it’s less powerful than the first, it’s by no means slow. It offers 496 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque.

This variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Both cars have a top speed of 134 mph, meaning they are fun to drive and deliver impressive speeds.

Double Modules

The Dodge Charger offers 250 kW electric drive modules, with one mounted on the front axle and the other on the rear axle.

The standard power variant and the R/T (Road and Track) model come with all-wheel drive, providing the grip needed for the road and the track.

Powershot

The Dodge Charger EV offers a unique feature for quarter-mile races: the PowerShot button on the steering wheel, designed to provide an extra burst of power for 10 seconds.

When you press the PowerShot button, it releases an additional 40 horsepower for 10 seconds. This feature can be used repeatedly, allowing you to enjoy plenty of thrilling moments.

Wireless Battery

The Dodge Charger is equipped with wireless battery technology, which provides better thermal performance since there are no wires to heat up.

It features a nickel cobalt aluminum battery, which combines impressive power and performance. This material offers a higher discharge rate, providing a whole surge of power the moment you press the accelerator.

Balanced Suspension

The front and rear modules are perfectly arranged to maintain a balanced 50/50 weight distribution. The front module functions as a wheel-end disconnect to enhance efficiency and range.

The rear module features a limited-slip differential, which improves traction and performance. Both modules are equipped with silicon carbide semiconductors, which reduce power loss and help conserve battery life.

Regenerative Braking

You no longer have to worry about excessive braking in a traffic jam. Every time you press the brake, you regain miles of driving thanks to the regenerative braking system.

This system converts the kinetic energy from braking back into battery power—a feature introduced in the Toyota Prius years ago. It’s even better and more refined, especially in this fully electric vehicle.

Paddle Shifters

Paddle shifters on an EV might seem unusual, but a racecar feels incomplete without them when you grip the steering wheel.

The Dodge Daytona EV features paddle shifters that control the levels of the regenerative braking system.

  • 0.1g provides the least strength and braking power.
  • 0.2g offers increased strength and stopping power.
  • 0.3g delivers maximum strength and intense braking power.

10-Minutes Charge

You can charge the Daytona with a 350 kW charger or a 175 kW DC Level 3 charging station. It takes about 10 minutes to charge the Daytona enough to run for 70 miles.

These figures sound great—within 10 minutes, it’s ready to tackle the rush hour while you grab a coffee or something.

Charger Types

Dodge offers an impressive range of options depending on the charger used and the vehicle variant:

  • A 350 kW charger delivers up to 101 miles of range in 10 minutes for the R/T variant while providing 79 miles for the Scat Pack model.
  • A 175 kW charger offers 91 miles of range in 10 minutes for the R/T and 71 miles for the Scat Pack.

These fast-charging capabilities ensure quick and efficient recharging on the go.

Free2Go Charge

Dodge offers various charging options, so you can select the one that best suits your needs. The Free2Go package provides $600 in credits, which can be used at various charging stations across the U.S. and Canada.

The Free2Move Charge Home package features a 48-amp Level 2 charger and a professionally installed home charging station for seamless convenience.

Low-Maintenance

The next-gen Dodge Daytona all-electric vehicle eliminates the need for regular oil changes. Instead, it only requires an EDM fluid change after 10 years or 150,000 miles.

The cabin air filter can be replaced after 12,000 miles to ensure clean, breathable air. To help maintain the longevity of the lithium-ion battery, you can set it to stop charging at 80% while you sleep simply by plugging it in overnight at your garage.

All the big brands are shifting towards EVs. Just like The G-Class 2025 just Went All-Electric.

Warranty Coverage

Dodge offers warranties on every car component, each with different periods. There’s a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty for federal emissions, and specified components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles.

The battery pack is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. The electric powertrain is also covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. The corrosion warranty covers all panels for 3 years and outer panels for 5 years with unlimited miles.
